Event description
A celebration of this year's One Dublin One Book choice - Leonard and Hungry Paul by Rónán Hession. With interview, readings and music.

About this Event

Join us for our flagship event to celebrate Leonard and Hungry Paul. Author Rónán Hession will be in conversation with arts journalist Nadine O'Regan about writing his debut novel about two friends trying to find their place in the world. Excerpts from the book will be performed by actor Emmet Kirwan. And the event will include music performances by Irish folk singer Brigid Mae Power.

Leonard and Hungry Paul was published in 2019 by Bluemoose Books and has been nominated for several awards including the Irish Novel of the Year and the British Book Award for Best Debut. The novel is about those uncelebrated people who have the ability to change the world, not by effort or force, but through their appreciation of all that is special and overlooked in life and has become a word-of-mouth hit among readers.

Rónán Hession is from Dublin and as well as being shortlisted for many awards for Leonard and Hungry Paul he has also been longlisted for the An Post Irish Book Awards for Short Story of the Year. His second novel Panenka will be published in May 2021. As Mumblin’ Deaf Ro, he has released three albums of storytelling songs. His third album Dictionary Crimes was nominated for the Choice Music Prize for Irish album of the year.

Nadine O'Regan is an award-winning Irish journalist, broadcaster and podcaster. Editor of the Business Post Magazine, she is also a columnist and arts writer with the publication, as well as its head of podcasting. A cover presenter on RTÉ Radio 1 (Late Date), Nadine has presented shows on Phantom FM (The Kiosk) and Today FM (Songs in the Key of Life). Nadine hosts the interview podcast My Roots Are Showing.

Brigid Mae Power is a singer songwriter. Recently signing to Fire Records, Power released the acclaimed album Head Above The Water in 2020 which was Rough Trade's Album of the Month.

Emmet Kirwan is an Irish actor, playwright and screenwriter. He is known for starring in RTE 2's Sarah & Steve and for writing and starring in the 2015 play and 2018 movie version of Dublin Oldschool.

One Dublin One Book is a Dublin City Council initiative which encourages people to read a book connected with the capital city during the month of April. For more details see www.onedublinonebook.ie
