Description
This workshop will explore the impact of loss through death and illness on children and adolescents. It will look at the impact of loss through the lens of child development, bereavement and loss theories and family coping strategies. Practical interventions and resources will be included in this workshop.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the workshop participants will be able to:
- understand the importance of children’s developmental stages and how they impact bereavement
- understand bereavement theories applicable to bereaved children
- integrate your new knowledge into responding appropriately to children experiencing loss
- gain an understanding of appropriate support systems/interventions for bereaved children
- understand the importance of self-care while working with bereaved children
Presenter Profile
Caroline Golding Brady has worked with children and adolescents in areas such as, teaching, counselling and psychotherapy, and guidance counselling. Her areas of interests supporting children, families, schools and communities with death, loss and bereavement issues. Caroline has an MSc in Bereavement Studies, an MSc in Guidance Counselling, a Professional Certificate in Children and Loss, and is a member of the IrishChildhood Bereavement Network. Caroline also is the Co-ordinator of IHF's Professional Certificate in Children and Loss course.
