About this event

ABOUT:

The Carrick Academy of Speech and Drama is built upon a welcoming and all-inclusive ethos, where every child and young adult is encouraged to shine, build self-esteem, nurture creativity and develop talent in a warm and professionally run environment. We cater to all ages with all abilities. The Carrick Academy of Speech and Drama is founded and run by Speech and Drama Teacher Lorna-Pia Greene BSc., MA., LRIAM. Lorna-Pia holds a Licentiate Diploma in Speech and Drama awarded by The Royal Irish Academy of Music. Lorna-Pia is also a registered member of Ireland's professional association of Speech and Drama Teachers of Ireland. Lorna-Pia has many years of experience, from training in some of Dublin's most established performance arts schools such as Take 2 with Pamela Hughes, The Betty Ann Norton School of Acting to performing lead roles in musicals, taking part on Irish Television, and competing at nationwide feis, where she has been a gold medal winning recipient. However, it is Lorna-Pia's love of working with children and encouraging them to find their inner voice while building their confidence which she finds the most rewarding. As a mother of two, Lorna-Pia understands that every child is wonderfully different and nurturing their imagination, building their confidence and giving them a platform to express themselves creatively is not only great fun, but also helps them build essential life skills and self-esteem.

TERM & LOCATION:

Each term is 6 weeks in duration and takes place at the modern and light filled building; Gaelscoil Liatroma, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim

CLASSES:

Classes catering for ages 4 - 18!

Class Descriptions Below:

Junior Shooting Stars is a wonderfully creative and expressive class for children aged 4 -6 .

It is a fun and exciting introduction to speech and drama and allows for all children to showcase all of their creative abilities, nurturing in particular that of play acting (improvisation), dance, singing and imaginative storytelling. Classes are confidence building and all children are encouraged to shine. We look at scene acting and role play from children’s favourite fairy-tales and fables. We look at basic speech techniques using tongue twisters and children’s award winning poetry. Musical theatre is also a central part of the class.

Shooting Stars Description (ages 6 – 8)

Shooting Stars Speech and Drama classes are filled with drama games, improvisation, role play, prose, poetry, musical theatre, alongside performance and speech techniques to inspire our students to explore their world, tell stories, make up characters and build confidence. They are encouraged to work as a team and discover all forms of self-expression including voice, face and body language. Articulation and vocabulary are developed and all children are encouraged to shine.

Stage Stars Description: (ages 9 – 12)

Stage Stars Speech and Drama classes are exploratory, creative and confidence building. As well as drama games, improvisation, role play, prose and poetry, we look at exploring characterization and storytelling. We study stage performance techniques including mime and scene acting. In addition, elocution and speech tools are incorporated. I encourage all students to explore their world, tell stories, make up characters and build confidence. Musical Theatre is also a central part of each class. Students are encouraged to work as a team and discover all forms of self-expression including voice, face and body language. Articulation and vocabulary are developed and all children are encouraged to shine.

Musical Theatre (ages 8 +)

Students will take to the stage in this musical and drama led performance class, where all aspects of stage acting, costume and musicality will be incorporated into a show stopping singing, acting and dancing end of term performance. All students will have the opportunity to explore their vocal range, develop their breathing, projection and articulation whilst nurturing a variety of character acting techniques.
