Overview
Jonathan Murphy models how to help students engage with different historical viewpoints from 2nd Year to LC using recent JC papers &extracts
In this new workshop Jonathan Murphy focuses on helping students engage with different historical viewpoints from 2nd Year through to LC.
Using recent JC papers and short contrasting extracts, he will model activities on perspective, bias, propaganda and changing interpretations, and then show how these skills feed directly into LC work in the classroom and RSR. Teachers will explore practical ways to help students use short historian quotes effectively in essays. Examples used include:
- the Columbus statue question (2024)
- Stalin poster and propaganda (2024)
- changing attitudes to the Rising using an archival document (2025)
- contrasting Home Rule leaders' rhetoric (2024)
- British and Irish interpretations of 1798 (2022)
