Description

CIVIL SOCIETY AND GLOBAL JUSTICE

The GLOBUS project is hosting a half-day event looking at the challenges faced by civil society and NGOs in the pursuit of global justice. Our H2020 project (Reconsidering European Contributions to Global Justice – GLOBUS) is keen to engage directly with senior civil society leaders in identifying issues, sharing experiences and highlighting solutions as to how best EU policies and institutions can contribute to global justice and identifying successes/failures therein.

The half-day afternoon event in central Brussels on Tuesday 29 May 2018 is designed to allow for a frank and constructive engagement across the four key themes of our project; migration, trade/development, climate change and security/conflict resolution with an associated focus on gender and human rights running through each of them. The format of the afternoon will be that of a ‘world café’, designed to facilitate cross-pollination of ideas and learning from others. At the core of this method is creating an informal setting, where small groups are brought together for group discussion to establish an open environment for debate.

We also look forward to keynote interventions on the issue of global justice. We have confirmed the participation of Professor Dr Nathalie Tocci (Director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali, Rome) and Ms. Madeleine Selina Rees (Secretary General of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Geneva) as keynote speakers.

For details, contact Prof Ben Tonra (ben.tonra@ucd.ie) or Dr Nikola Tomic (nikola.tomic@ucd.ie) from the University College Dublin (UCD).
