About this Event

The first of the Barry Family came to Ireland in the 12 Century and were granted the 800 acres of Fota Island by Henry 2nd of England to a man called Philip de Barri. He came here with The Anglo Norman Invasion. There has been a Barry family on this estate for 900 years. Seen through their eyes and the house, Fota is a microcosm of Irish history.

Inside the house, you will see the amazing opulence of 18 th; 19 th; 20 th century living. See how the vast kitchen worked to feed the Family, titled guests in residence and the large staff of up to 50 every day.

Once the house tour is over, please feel free to wander on your own, the amazing pleasure gardens of Fota House, created over several centuries. The Arboretum & Pleasure Gardens are an amazing walk through ancient exotic tree species and walled gardens.
