Introduction:

AONTAS will hold an event in Longford Women’s Link on Monday, 12th October that will highlight the value of community education from the practitioner and learner perspective. We will showcase the diversity of community education and how it effectively responds to local needs. This event will call for specific funding for community education and will launch our community education census.

Aims and Objectives:

• To demonstrate the value and impact of community education as an inclusive model of adult learning

• To demonstrate the diversity of community education provision and how it responds to local needs

• To highlight the need for autonomy of funding

• To highlight the need for COVID19 funding support for non-statutory community education (submission)

• To demonstrate the work of AONTAS and the Community Education Network (CEN)

Organised by

AONTAS is Ireland’s National Adult Learning Organisation for adult and community education providers and adult learners. It promotes the value and benefits of adult learning, and advocates on behalf of the adult and community education sector. Founded in 1969, it is an independent NGO, with 400 members nationwide. In addition to promoting adult learning in Ireland, AONTAS is the national coordinating body for the European Agenda for Adult Learning, which is aimed at increasing participation in lifelong learning across the EU, enhancing policies and supports for adult learners, and gathering and disseminating best practices.
