About this event

Dr Patricia Kennon in conversation with Mary Branley and Oein de Bhairdúin

Thursday, 13 May 2021

2-3 pm GMT, followed by the 2021 ISSCL AGM 3-3.30 pm GMT.

Mary Branley, Sligo born poet, author, and musician published two collections of poetry, and is included in numerous anthologies, including Windharp 2015. She recorded a CD Let a new Song Pour in 2019. As writer with Kids Own Publishing Partnership since 2001, she has travelled throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland developing writing with children in publications of 30 books.

Oein De Bhairdúin is a creative soul, with a passion for poetry, folk herbalism and preserving the beauty of Traveller tales, sayings, retellings and historic exchanges. He is the manager of an education centre, and a long-time board member of several Mincéirí community groups, including having had the honour of being vice-chair of the Irish Traveller Movement and a council member of Mincéir Whidden.

This is the last of four Conversations taking place via Zoom between February-May 2021, exploring and discussing issues around representation, social justice, colonialism, and anti-racism in Irish and international youth literature. These Conversations are free for all attendees in order to increase access and especially to support students and early-career researchers to be able to attend.

See https://issclblog.wordpress.com/ for information about the other 2021 Conversations and about ISSCL membership benefits.
