Description

Counter Culture is a platform for some of the great new artists. As music in Ireland goes from strength to strength, ANON and Another Weekend have selected some of the acts they feel will shape the industry the year to come.

LIVE ACTS 20.00

Aonair
This solo project of producer/songwriter Brendan McGlynn has been widely acclaimed. Aonair sound combines ambient pop with an 80s edge. Influences include Connan Mockasin, The War On Drugs, Juliee Cruise and Depeche Mode. With a string of new singles on the horizon, Aonair is set to be one of the most talked about artists over the next 12 months.

"Steadily building melody and harmony through a prism of lush production, Aonair's music is a deftly crafted soundscape that demands repeated listens." - The Last Mixtape

Comfy Coffin
Comfy Coffin are a Wicklow based rock group led by bandleader Coco Costello. The ensemble's mission statement is to make fun, sincere and lively music. They take inspiration from acts such as Prefab Sprout, The Beta Band, Bob Dylan and John Frusciante. Having released a number of singles over the past 2 years their debut EP 'Let's Eat Some Cheese & Head To Bed & Dream That We're The New U2' is due for release in July.

Rachael Lavelle
Hypnotic in her performance, Rachael Lavelle blends elegant piano with innovative electronic sound design, strange and somewhat humorous lyrics with her arresting voice. Following the release of her debut EP Superman in 2015, she has supported or performed with Saint Sister, Jacob Collier, Jack Lukeman, Moxie, Booka Brass Band, Téada Orchestra and Glasshouse Ensemble.
In 2016 she received an M.Phil in Music and Media Technologies from Trinity College Dublin where she studied composition with Dr. Linda Buckley. As a composer, Rachael has had works performed by RTÉ ConTempo Quartet, Téada Orchestra, Glasshouse Ensemble and Tonnta Vocal Ensemble. She is an active member of the Irish Composers’ Collective, Dulciana Choir for Upper Voices and Glasshouse Ensemble.

23.00 - LATE
DJ SETS
Unit 1
A brand new boy and girl band from Portobello. Performing all the hits. Electronic, inorganic digital r'n'b . A new noise not for the old boys.

Fat Pablo
Fat Pablo are a six piece neo-psychedelic space band from Dublin. Taking influence from 60’s psych rock, modern hip-hop and post-punk, they have created a sound that is akin to bands like Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Grizzly Bear & King Krule.

An underbelly of hip hop inspired bass and drums, psych guitars, a body of synth and cinematic visuals create a compelling space for Dave Barrett’s lamenting soulful vocals.

The band take great consideration in creating an audio-visual experience for the listener. Dedicated artist, Ross Ryder, works closely with the band during the writing process to build bespoke aesthetic narratives for each song.
