Event description
When we spend so much time caring for others, this programme for Heath Care workers gives us an opportunity to care for ourselves.

About this event

This four week programme supports our mental and emotional health through movement, self-care and creativity. No dance or artistic experience of any kind is necessary to enjoy these workshops. All you need is access to the internet, a space of your own and curiosity.

The sessions will run from Thursday 3 June to Thursday 24 June each week from 7.00 pm to 8:15 pm via Zoom, free of charge to Health Care workers in West Cork.

The sessions are facilitated by dance artist, Laura Sarah Dowdall, who is based in Dublin. Laura describes her dance practice as a playful space where she merges the worlds of dance, somatic movement and creative wellbeing . She enjoys creating experiential dance work that is immersive and encourages audience interaction.

The Covid-19 national lockdown in 2020 inspired her work, encompassing embodied nature, site-specific movement practice and a performance series.

While restricted in our space and company, this work explores how we can recover curiosity, wonder and awe in places well-known and new, and how our environment can speak through us and support us.

Organiser Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre

Organiser of Creative Wellbeing: 4 week programme for Health Care Staff

Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre is a hub of arts activity right in the heart of Skibbereen. Its two main galleries house contemporary art exhibitions that intrigue and inspire, presenting artwork by local, national and international artists and a programme of guided tours, gallery talks and free gallery resources such as the Discovery Box for families and Children's Activity Sheets.
The three Artists' Studios provide space for Irish and international artists to work on site and to meet the public and the Dance Residency brings top-class contemporary dancers, choreographers, performers and musicians to Uillinn to develop new work and present it to the public throughout the year.
The vibrant and diverse education programme enriches the visitor experience through workshops, masterclasses, dance and discussion platforms and encourages equality of access for people of all ages and cultures through its long-term programmes and projects.
Many of the programmes and events are free of charge.
Perfect for rainy day activities, or to relax and enjoy a delicious coffee and cake in the sunny, sheltered courtyard courtesy of The Coffee Shop at Uillinn, West Cork Arts Centre has something for everyone.
