About this event

Tune in to get a taste of some traditional Irish music from a selection of instruments. Des will give a brief introduction to the instruments he is playing across the session.

Des, a native of Achill Island, Co. Mayo, is widely regarded as one of the finest exponents of the tin whistle and flute in Ireland as well as an accomplished player of the Scottish bagpipes. Des has been successful at a competitive level achieving All Ireland awards for senior tin whistle and bagpipes. He has performed with artists as diverse as Imelda May, Jeff Beck, Mundy, Damien Dempsey, Jack L, Pete Williams, Matt Molloy, Sister Sledge, Paul Brady, Mary Coughlan, Gerry O’ Connor, James Kilbane, Steve Cooney, Lúnasa, Laoise Kelly and the St. Laurence O’ Toole Pipe Band at Carnegie Hall. Des has also shared the stage with iconic musical performers such as Hozier, Jools Holland, Rip Tide Movement and Sinéad O’ Connor on The Imelda May Show, 2014 on Irish national TV.

Des has three albums released; ‘Trad with a Twist’ is his latest, which is a follow up to the two previously, highly successful albums ‘Achill Head’ and ‘Achill Air’. Traditional Irish music enthusiasts love

Des’s unique and distinctive style and were pleasantly surprised with the new direction this album has taken.
