DABF25 Book Launch | Of Peras and Apeiron: ends and infinity
Overview
To mark the launch of their new book published by Solstice Arts Centre to accompany the exhibition Of Peras and Apeiron: ends and infinity, curators of the exhibition Francis Halsall and Belinda Quirke will discuss the conceptual framework within the exhibition. The publication features the work of exhibiting artists Gerard Caris, Neil Clements, Channa Horwitz, Ronnie Hughes, Roy Johnston, Grace McMurray, Danielle Tegeder, and Suzanne Treister, and features contributions from Adrian Duncan, Francis Halsall and Belinda Quirke.
Of Peras and Apeiron: ends and infinity is a group exhibition of artists who explore systematic processes as an inherent part of their practice. The work explores the different numerical, geometrical and methodical systems that can be used to make art. Artists included both explore the potential of the infinite and unbounded (Apeiron) whilst acknowledging they will always be bound by limits (Peras). The resulting work reveals approaches that are mathematical and rational, fictional and personal whilst exploring the deep creativity of systems made by humans and other agents.
Francis Halsall (UK/ IRE) is a writer and academic based in the school of Visual Culture, National College of Art and Design, Dublin where he is (Co)Director of Masters Programme: Art in the Contemporary World. Alongside critical writing his academic work considers ideas relating to the cultural reception of systems and networks. Recent publications include the Contemporary Art, Systems and the Aesthetics of Dispersion (2nd ed, Routledge, 2025).
Belinda Quirke is a curator, producer, musician, singer, and inaugural director of Solstice Arts Centre and Swift Cultural Centre in Meath. Her current research explores number, the attunement of ancient and electronic drone etymologies through analogue synths. She frequently collaborates and performs with visual artist Isabel Nolan.
