DABF25 Workshop | Zine Formats
Overview
Join Elize de Beer for a Zine Format Workshop and learn how to make four dummy book zines to expand your own zine making practice. In the final half an hour you will fill your favourite zine format made with writing, drawings and collage. No previous experience needed and all tools and materials will be provided.
Elize de Beer is a South African visual artist, bookbinder and arts facilitator working in expanded print, sculpture and book arts. In her visual arts practice, she explores concerns and ideas around archiving, the hierarchies of knowledge, the land as a place of belonging and colonialism. She has been one of the co-producers of Cork Zine Fest since 2021 and within her zine-making practice she has used zines as medium to explore her artistic ideas, to share personal stories and day-to-day ponderings on the world, implementing writing, drawing and photography within her zines. While celebrating the DIY nature of zines she also explores ways of incorporating her traditional bookbinding background that plays with the nature of what a zine can be and the act of self-publication as artistic practice.
