MODULE 1 - Understanding D.I.E.B

(Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Belonging)

10.00am - 12.30pm

AIM – To help participants understand exactly what Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Belonging is in the workplace.

This module is designed to help participants explore and understand the meaning of workplace diversity and Inclusion. It will also help participants better understand how to encourage and develop higher levels of employee engagement through effective D&I management. The module will help improve participants existing knowledge of diversity and workplace inclusion and explore strategies to help create higher levels of inclusion. This involves an interactive exercise designed to help participants better understand the dynamics of exclusion and the relationship to and understand the kinds of behaviours and attitudes that can lead to the creation of either inclusive or exclusive behaviours. The module will also introduce

OBJECTIVES

  • Develop a consistent and commonly understood definition of D, E, I & B.
  • Understand the Dimensions of Diversity
  • Understand diversity as a personal rather than abstract notion
  • Be introduced to current research on D&I benefits
  • Introduced new strategies for creating higher levels of inclusion
  • Establishing clarity as to what D&I are and the dynamics of diversity conscious and inclusive workplace.
  • Exploring how to create the D&I ‘space’
  • Introduction to creating open-mindedness in the D&I space (communication, thinking, approach etc)

MODULE 2 - Merging Cultures

AIM – To help participants understand the dynamics of a culturally diverse workspace.

This module is designed to help participants explore and understand the dimensions of culture and what happens when cultures merge in a diverse working environment. It will help participants understand and appreciate how our cultural programming can impact the way we interact with and engage with others as either individuals or groups. The module includes an interactive video-based exercise.

An optional addition to this module is to include a Culture Connect profile for each of the participants to the programme. This profile will not only enrich the individual experience but will provide participants with a new tool to help them better understand the culture in their workplace (including colleague interactions, marketing, sales, proposals, international operations etc). I highly recommend including this profile for each participant should your budgets permit.

  • Understand our unconscious cultural programming
  • Explore the dimensions of culture (directness, expressiveness etc)
  • Be able to recognise ‘culture gaps’
  • Be able to link cultural awareness to business opportunities

David Walsh has over 30 years of experience in working, training, thought-leading, strategy development, coaching, speaking, lecturing and facilitating in both the public and private sectors in Ireland, Europe, Asia and the United States. He has worked with executives from many of the world’s leading organizations. He has facilitated international business and strategic diversity programs for senior executives in organizations such as Amgen, Novartis, Medtronic, the Kerry Group, Northern Trust Bank, AOL, Diageo, Fidelity Investments, Volkswagen, Northern Trust Bank, BNP Paribank Johnson and Johnson, PepsiCo, Microsoft, AWAS, Symantec, PayPal, Facebook, Danone, Tesco, Dell, Unilever, SAP, Indeed, Tyco Electronics as well as a range of others.

One of David’s key interests is the creation of more inclusive organizations and engaged employees by focusing on developing an increased recognition of a holistic approach to change. He strongly advocates Appreciative Enquiry as a methodology for creating positive change. He is the author of Cultural Detective Ireland as well as Policing Pluralism in Cultivating Pluralism, OakTree Press, 2001. He is also a contributor to the recently published Mediators Toolkit, New Society, 2018. David has a keen interest in Neuroscience and the workspace and is a member of the Neuroscience Academy.
