DCSWP are delighted to announce our first ever podcast series, aimed at first time and novice runners

About this event

Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership, in conjunction with the Active Cities Dublin initiative, present ‘Couch to 5K Podcast Series’. During the pandemic we had to become more flexible and innovative in how we delivered our services to people in communities across the city. We wanted to explore ways to give as many people as possible the opportunity to take part in physical activity. This podcast is just one of the innovative programmes to emerge from that process.

Participants who sign up will receive three e-mails a week (Mon, Wed & Fri) over a 6-week period, commencing on Monday 9th May. Each e-mail will include a link that will bring you directly to the podcast episode. Each episode/running session lasts approximately 40 minutes so please choose your route accordingly. We recommend a circular loop if possible but if you are using a linear route please remember to turn back half way through the session. Wear appropriate footwear & clothing and remember to stay hydrated.

The coach and motivating force who will guide you through your journey from couch to 5k is the fantastic Mark Fleming (currently appearing in RTE’S Ultimate Hell Week!). Each participant will also be sent a 5 minute warm up video featuring Mark that will assist you with limbering up before each session. We hope you enjoy the programme – there’s no pressure, just take it at your own pace!

The Active Cities Project is funded by Sport Ireland through the Dormant Account Fund. The mission of Active Cities is to create the opportunity for citizens to lead healthier lifestyles in the context of sport and physical activity. Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway & Waterford are all participating in the initiative. The Active Cities Project is based on the World Health Organisation’s GAPPA Framework, which is based on getting those people least active, active. The project is built around 4 guiding pillars – Active Systems, Active Environments, Active Societies & Active People.
