About Opera Workshops

The Blockchain Development Workshop is a certified course for developers looking to upskill their repertoire to enter into this rapidly emerging and increasingly important industry. The workshop series begins in the old town of Berlin with ‘Part One: Decentralised Design Using Blockchain’ and guides participants through a highly-specialised training designed primarily for frontend developers.

The workshop runs from 9am - 5pm on Wednesday 21st of March. Following this there will be a private rooftop networking event hosted by the Festy team (www.festy.ie) at 7pm overlooking the historic architecture of the city which is allusive of the economic and cultural achievements of Germany.

We employ a practical learning methodology which includes group exercises and hands-on development. Our instructors come from both startup and established blockchain technology companies, sporting a wealth of industry knowledge and experience using distributed ledger technologies.

The target audience for this workshop are freelance and professional developers with minimum one-year experience with in one or a combination of the following; object oriented programming, RESTful Apis, web development, distributed systems or blockchain technologies. Blockchain programming experience is not required. We encourage anyone with less than the required development experience to read up on the course material before applying. There is a fully comprehensive list of the tools that will be used below.

Certificates

Each participant that completes this workshop will receive a digital certificate recorded on the blockchain. This will provide immutable proof that you completed this specialised blockchain workshop. Outstanding performance will be rewarded in the form of an invitation to access Opera Incubator’s development DAO.

Overview on Sessions

1) A Decentralised Design Practice

The usability of a technology is fundamental for emerging tech and yet why is it that blockchain is so difficult for users currently? By juxtaposing money and tech with the use of cryptocurrencies, this entails monetary responsibility for using blockchain applications and with this comes risk for users. The user experience can have detrimental consequences with a poorly designed system such as an accidental loss of wealth or other unintentional user errors. This session will open the day by providing good design practice for developers working in blockchain.

2) Building a Payment API on the Blockchain

Learn how to develop a payment API on the blockchain to start processing payments for websites and at point of sale. Learn how to implement a sell feature for processing payments in e-commerce. This will incorporate aspects of the methodology from the first session and mix good security practices with frontend design. Learn to implement a crypto payment processor on a bare bones react front end. This knowledge will empower any developer to break free from the previous limitations of implementing a fiat only ecommerce website.

3) Usable Crypto: Principles & Practices for Defining, Designing, and Executing Successful dApp Project

  • Project Makers & Game Changers: Design Principles for Successful dApps
  • Project Killers: Working w/Design Constraints of Blockchain and Secured Digital Assets
  • Crypto Security Best Practices
  • Web App UX Best Practices
  • The State of the Disunion: Designing for On-boarding Inexperienced Crypto Users
  • Pragmatic Playground: Using traditional API’s to interface with blockchain

Note to attendees: Laptops will be needed for each individual. A report will be provided in advance for each participant detailing software requirements on the day.
