Event description

Description

This is an introductory workshop, that assumes no prior knowledge, for anyone with an interest in understanding the business implications and applications of Augmented Reality (AR) & Virtual reality (VR), regardless of your business sector, department, background or experience level. We'll take a high level look at the technologies but focus very much on the business applications, with the intention of having the workshop accessible to all, regardless of your role.

"James’s workshop really is for those who want to know more about how VR & AR can be used in everyday life and how it can be applied to any business, industry or sector. As a non-expert in this field I felt the workshop was very practical, intuitive and had plenty of scope for interaction and collaboration within the group". ~ Serena de Stacpoole, Innovation Lead at Aviva

"The workshop was both engaging and educational. James is clearly a subject matter expert in the area of AR and VR. The workshop was a worthwhile investment". ~ John Mulreid, Learning and Development Manager at FBD Insurance

"For anyone who is not 'au fait' with what is happening in the ARVR sphere... James is an authority on the state of the industry here in Ireland". ~ Geoffrey Allen, Co-founder at 3MS.

"Presenting to a room full of innovators and entrepreneurs, James was able to light the fire of creativity by exploring the possibilities of blended reality. He was able to apply his knowledge to sectors ranging from Health to Finance, offering specific use-cases that might create growth and profitability." ~ Thom Strimbu, Entrepreneur & MBA Student at Smurfit Business School.

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is limited to 6 people only so that everyone gets time to ask questions and have them answered satisfactorily.

Your instructor James will:

  • Kill the jargon and explain in simple terms what these technologies really are and what they enable.

  • Tell you what hardware and software choices you have now and into the future (as best we can predict it). Without bamboozling you!

  • Talk about the different types of AR/VR content (e.g. 360 video) and how to make it.

  • Present real business and industry case studies across various sectors to demonstrate how other companies are using these technologies today.

  • Give you the opportunity to experience Virtual Reality (in a headset).

  • Engage in a Q&A that gives every participant a chance to have your questions answered.

Topics covered:

  • Definitions: What is Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality / Mixed Reality / Merged Reality / Blended Reality / etc (there are more!). What are the similarities and differences between them? And why you really don’t need to worry about the horrible acronym soup!

  • Hardware: What devices allow you to experience all the above. What are the different kinds of headset. How are they likely to evolve over the next 5 years. What are the other hardware peripherals besides headsets that are important to know about.

  • Software: How do you create experiences for all these devices (you don’t need to be a programmer!). How is this software likely to change into the future.

  • Content: What kinds of content can be consumed on the different devices. What tools are required to produce it? What are the new types of experience that can happen? How important is audio?

  • Applications: What do AR/VR allow us to do much better than before? What are the entirely new things we can do with them?

  • What Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple et al are doing in this space, in terms of both hardware and software. And who are the other main players.

  • Things you need to know about the physiological and psychological aspects of wearing headsets.

  • Use cases that relate to business matters, from marketing, hospitality, education, retail, media, healthcare, manufacturing and many more.

Outcomes:

You'll leave this workshop with a solid understanding of what these technologies are, what they can do, and what they can not do, now and into the foreseeable future. You'll be enabled to confidently discuss and guide your company's adoption of AR/VR. You'll know what the next steps are in how to apply them to your business and if it makes sense to do so.

We're determined to ensure that you leave the workshop with a clear understanding of how AR/VR affects your business now and into the future. But we know it might be some time after you've absorbed the material that you come up with more important questions. Therefore each participant will get to have to a 1 hour follow-up phone call with our instructor James.
