Digital AT Assessment: 4 x webinars plus e-learning
Overview
Target audience: Therapists, anyone involved in Assessment for Digital Assistive Technology.
Course Description:
This four-week course is designed to build skills and knowledge in the area of digital assistive technology assessment.
Participants on the course will require a basic knowledge of digital assistive technology products, have experience of supporting AT users or a therapeutic background. Participants will be required to have identified a case study to report on as part of this course.
Prerequisites:
- Must be in a position to carry out at least one AT assessment during the course: dedicated time will be required for this as part of the participant’s workload/caseload. The assessment is to be completed after session 2 and before session 3.
- Experience in AT or related areas:Completion of a Foundation level AT course OR Therapeutic background (SLT/OT/Psychology etc.) OR Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with AT
- Commit to minimum of 5 hours per week for the duration of the course
- If possible, participants should be facilitated to work in pairs/threes to complete assessments with AT users
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, participants will be able to:
· Identify the key stages and factors included in a comprehensive AT assessment
· Understand the main models of AT assessment and their components
· Apply the skills and knowledge gained through eLearning and webinars to a case study
· Document assessments, decisions and recommendations in a clear manner
Course content:
Session 1
· Orientation to the course and Moodle platform
· Scope of the course i.e. Digital Assistive Technology
· Introduce AT Assessment models, with a focus on SETT Framework
· Completing a SETT assessment
· Self assessment
· Identifying goals, team members and circle of support
· Using SETT with your case study
· Referral forms
Session 2
· Specific types of assessment: Access, AAC, mounting etc.
· Prerequisite skills
· Writing up a session plan for an assessment
· Observe, hypothesise, intervene, observe….
Session 3
· Reviewing assessment sessions
· Feature matching, to find possible solutions
· Carrying out trials, sourcing equipment, including looking at accessibility settings and mainstream technologies.
Session 4
· Review stage
· Evaluate options
· Next steps - intervention, training, peer supports etc
· Report writing including structure, language used, recommendations etc
· Funding sources
Proposed Course Schedule:
· Weekly 2 hour webinars over 4 weeks: 26th May, 2nd, 9th & 16th June 2026.
· Tasks to be completed by participants outside of the dedicated webinar time.
· Access to the content of course on Moodle platform for 1 year
Course Evaluation Process:
Active participation in webinars and online forum
Completion and submission of referral forms, assessment forms, assessment session plan, session review on a chosen case study
Write up recommendations report on a chosen case study.
