Event Details

The Digital Youth Symposium is a platform for research and policy discussion on digital strategy for children and youth in Ireland.  The European Strategy for a Better Internet for Children (European Commission, 2012) aims to make the internet a better environment for kids through:

  • supporting digital literacy and competence
  • encouraging creativity
  • stimulating creative and educational content for young people,
  • scaling up of awareness-raising

Young people in Ireland, however, are behind their European counterparts when it comes to availing of the most productive and creative activities online’ (EU Kids Online, 2010). A new policy emphasis is needed to equip Irish young people with the skills and support needed to get the most out of the digital environment.

During the symposium, experts from research, education and policy will debate how best to reshape policy to support digital opportunities for young people and ensure digital policy reflects their best interests.

The Digital Youth Symposium is hosted by the Digital Childhoods research project at Dublin Institute of Technology, in association with and EU Kids Online, with support from the Irish Research Council.
