Description

The training will relate to the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Charter and Guidelines for Early Childhood Care and Education. It is a 15 hour certified programme and certificates will only be issued on attandance at all 4 dates below.

Location: KCCC Offices, Unit 21 Thompson Enterprise Centre, Clane Business Park, Clane, Co. Kildare

Saturday 12th October 9.30am-4.00pm

Tuesday 15th October 6.30pm-9.30pm

Tuesday 22nd October 6.30pm-9.30pm

Tuesday 5th November 6.30pm-9.30pm


Please Note: Lunch is included on the Saturday, please indicate if you have any dietary requirements on the booking form.

Session 1: Introduce the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Guidelines and to explore key concepts relating to Diversity, Equality and Inclusion

• Identify the layout of the Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion Charter and Guidelines
• Describe a range of approaches to Diversity, Equality and Inclusion
• Outline the principles of an inclusive culture
• Define key terms that relate to Diversity, Equality and Inclusion and explore the impact of language and terminology used in the context of Diversity Equality and Inclusion.


Session 2: To explore the impact of attitudes and values and to introduce the anti-bias approach

• Demonstrate awareness of the impact of their own values and attitudes on their work with children and families and their role in supporting inclusion, equality and diversity
• Outline anti-bias goals for children and adults and begin working towards adopting an anti-bias approach
• Demonstrate leadership skills in relation to inclusive practice, engage in ongoing reflection and support others in reflecting on their practice
• Advocate for diversity, equality and inclusion for children and families in Early Childhood Care and Education settings


Session 3: To explore the role of the environment in supporting Diversity, Equality and Inclusion

• Outline the policy and legislation in relation to Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in Ireland
• Describe the role of the environment in supporting Diversity, Equality and Inclusion
• Equality proof the Early Childhood Care and Education environment
• Recognise the knowledge and skills that parents and children bring to the ECEC setting and use them to create meaningful experiences


Session 4: To explore a range of strategies to support Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion and inform policy development

• Develop a range of strategies and use resources to support inclusion and participation for all children, including children with disabilities, children form diverse cultural backgrounds and children that are learning an additional language
• Devise mission statements and inclusion policies to support inclusion in an ECEC setting
• Demonstrate leadership skills in relation to inclusive practice, engage in ongoing reflection and support others in reflecting on their practice
• Advocate for Diversity, Equality and Inclusion for children and families in the ECCE setting
