Diversity & Inclusion: What's My Role?
About this event
Did you know that most disabilities are acquired, for example as the result of an accident or illness and 13.5% of the population has at least one disability? Yet only 36% of people with a disability are employed.
What do you think about when you hear the term ‘diversity and inclusion’? Most people agree that it is an important topic, one that impacts our society and workplaces. But all too often, we believe the solutions lie with the government, large organisations or interest groups.
In fact, creating a more equitable and fairer Ireland requires all its citizens to act. Whether a business owner, colleague, parent or neighbour, your individual actions can make a significant, positive difference.
If you've always wondered 'what can I do?' join Dawn Leane to gain an oversight of what diversity and inclusion means in Ireland today. Learn what each of us can do in our everyday lives to create impact. And most importantly of all, learn what you can do to start a wider conversation…
Our Speaker - Dawn Leane
Dawn Leane has long had an interest in diversity and inclusion. During her role as Director of People and Resources with Chartered Accountants Ireland, the organisation had a gender balance at management level of 50:50 female to male, and throughout the organisation women professionals outnumbered men at 61:39.
Having observed how some organisations succeeded in promoting diversity at senior levels while others struggled to do so ignited Dawn’s curiosity. Rather than simply implementing policies of compliance when trying to create a more diverse workforce, Dawn believes organisations should focus on developing a culture of diversity and leadership among staff members.
LeaneLeaders was established to support organisations and individuals on their journey to inclusive leadership.Dawn is Chairperson of the Board of Sunbeam House Services, an organisation which supports adults with intellectual disabilities to live full lives in the community.
She has chaired the Business Partner Network of the Certificate for People with Intellectual Disability at Trinity College Dublin and served on Chartered Accountants Ireland Diversity Committee. In 2018 Dawn was appointed as an Ambassador for Diverse IN, a global organisation promoting diversity and inclusion and has been included on its 146 Inspiring Women Leaders list and 125 People to Follow on LinkedIn about Diversity & Inclusion.
