Description

Hello, greetings, and happy new year! I hope you are doing wonderfully.

Due to love for our institutional democracy and my education in history and political affairs, I am passionate about facilitating constructive democratic dialogue that powers both our government and society. I want to raise awareness that it is only through civility and care for one another does our democracy function. Therefore, in my work as a community organizer, or one who brings together people, ideas, and causes, I have planned and prepared an event for public benefit.

You are cordially invited to “Doing Democracy: A Public Seminar on Politics in America Today” on Tuesday, January 29, from 6:30-8:00 p.m., at Drendel Auditorium on the SALT Block in Hickory, for an evening of information and inspiration.

A panel of published academics, regional and state civic leaders, and a local office-holder will be speaking about the state of our politics, focusing on civic discourse.

Speakers include:

  • Dr. Marc Hetherington, Professor of Political Science at UNC-Chapel Hill
  • Dr. Katy Harriger, Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Wake Forest University
  • Ms. Ross Harris, Executive Director of the North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership
  • The Honorable Mr. Hank Guess, Mayor of Hickory

I, Mr. Aaron Kohrs, a local educator and advocate, will give a brief historical context of democratic discourse in America.

There will be a question-and-answer segment to follow talks and refreshments provided by Windy City Grill of Hickory.

The Greater Hickory Jaycees will be present at the event with civic volunteer resources. #Hickory International Council is an event sponsor. All are welcome to listen, learn, and practice democracy better.

What we do for ourselves remains with us; what we do for the world echoes in eternity.

All best and regards,
