Drawing & Conjuring: All ages workshop with artist Cara Farnan
Event Information
Description
For National Drawing Day and as part of Bealtaine Festival @ Temple Bar, TBG+S is delighted to host an intergenerational drawing workshop for all ages and levels of drawing abilities:
The act of drawing is the first way we as humans have of expressing our interaction with the world. It holds the privileged position of bridging the gap between our mental and physical experience. Drawing is a way of conjuring reality; it is a way we express our ideas about how the world should or could look.
In this workshop, suitable for absolutely anyone; from those who are only starting to pick up pencils, to drawing veterans with a lifetime of experience, Cara will bring the group on an exploration of the various ways drawing can be used to discover and articulate our world. Together we will map our responses to senses such as hearing and touch, moving from the small and intimate to making images that take up spaces big enough to inhabit.
Cara Farnan is a visual artist drawn to the space between what we know about the world, and what we sense about it. Her work stems from a fascination for the inherent magic and quiet monumentality of stuff – observing and reflecting on the strange quirks of and interactions between often familiar things. Cara works in a variety of forms including sculptural and site-specific installation, sound, text, video, drawing and printmaking. Cara has a BA in Fine Print from NCAD, and is a member of Ormond Art Studios and Black Church Print Studio.
