Description
Pádraig Yeates, historian of Dublin in the revolutionary era, in conversation with Maurice Earls, joint editor of the Dublin Review of Books.
In his four volumes on Dublin from 1912-24, Pádraig Yeates examines the growing role of the Catholic Church, the tensions between social classes and denominations, the hopes and ambitions of those who sought changes and the way in which these processses impacted on ordinary Dubliners who faced war and poverty throughout those years.

About the organiser
Books Upstairs was established in 1978 and has been trading independently in Dublin city centre since. It has an extensive selection of stock in the humanities as well as a vast Irish interest section which includes poetry, fiction and history. We also stock a wide range of intellectual, political and literary journals. Offering the city of Dublin a diverse range of quality stock on an independent basis has been key to the ethos at Books Upstairs over the last 37 years. In our new location – a beautiful Georgian building on 17 D’Olier Street – we’ve expanded our stock and opened a café and literary venue on the first floor.
