Earth Day; Will the Climate Bill restore our planet and its people?

About this event

Just Transition Greens in collaboration with Fridays For Future, Stop Climate Chaos and Safety Before LNG are inviting you to a public meeting and discussion to raise awareness of The Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021.

While overall there is an agreement to say that the climate bill is a step in the right direction in the fight against climate change, it is recognised that there are still some weaknesses to the bill.

The theme for Earth Day 2021 is “restore our planet”. This is the perfect opportunity to ask ourselves and our speakers if our government’s climate bill will restore our planet and its people.

To talk about this, we have the following speakers:

  • Eamon Ryan, Green Party Leader, The Minister for Transport and Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications
  • Christopher O'Sullivan, Fianna Fáil TD and vice chair of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action
  • Prof Barry McMullin, Faculty of Engineering and Computing in Dublin City University
  • Sadhbh O’Neill, Researcher and Policy Advisor for Stop Climate Chaos
  • Alice-Mary Higgins, Independent Senator and a member of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action
  • Joan Collins, Independents 4 Change TD
  • John McElligott, Grassroots activist with Safety Before LNG
  • Flossie from Flossie and the Beach Cleaners, Youth Climate Activist

There will be an opportunity to send questions to the speakers

We will also be showing a video from Professor Peter H. Kahn, Jr., from the Department of Psychology & School of Environmental and Forest Sciences, University of Washington, USA. Then to bring us closer to nature and our emotions, visual artist living and working in Cork Rachel Doolin will be presenting us some of her work and projects.

* If we run out of space in the webinar then you can watch the livestream on the Just Transition Greens Youtube https://tinyurl.com/3p93af3d
