Description

Echoes - Maeve Binchy & Irish Writers 2019 - Saturday October 5th

Afternoon sessions - 2.00 - 5.00pm

All at Sea

Does living on a small island affect our sense of community? From successive generations of families becoming lighthouse keepers to the tight-knit bonds formed by our diaspora in far-flung lands, communities are a huge part of Irish life at home and abroad. In conversation with Niall MacMonagle, writers Andrea Carter, Fionn Davenport and Hazel Gaynor discuss whether the island influences writing and writers coming from Ireland, and whether it has any impact on how other countries think of us.

Readings from Maeve’s work by Deirdre O’Kane

Writing In The Margins

Writing has become a form of activism for communities in Ireland. In conversation with Sean Rocks, writers Carlo Gebler and Senator Lynn Ruane and human rights activist Ibrahim Halawa explore how writing is giving a voice to previously unheard or little-heard communities, and how fiction, non-fiction and memoir are increasingly being used for advocacy and to drive social and political change in Ireland.

Maeve Binchy- At Home in Ireland with Róisín Ingle.

Coffee breaks, book signings and Meet the Authors all included.

Afternoon Session Tickets €30 (plus fees).
