Echoes - Maeve Binchy & Irish Writers - 5th October 2019

Morning sessions

Maeve Binchy - At Home in the World

Olivia O’Leary gives a personal reflection on Maeve’s life and times, her journalism and fiction.

Writing Ireland

Does contemporary writing reflect life in Ireland today? In her fiction, Maeve Binchy shone a light on so many communities in Ireland, and how they lived and interacted. In conversation with Niall MacMonagle, authors Cathy Kelly, Chris Binchy and Jo Spain discuss whether contemporary writing reflects the diverse reality of life in Ireland today.

Home Thoughts from Abroad

Maeve Binchy was first published when she wrote home from a kibbutz in Israel to reassure her parents that she was still alive, and her father thought her letters so good he sent them to a newspaper. In conversation with Caroline Erskine, writers Christine Dwyer Hickey, Madeleine Keane and Mary Pat Kelly discuss what it’s really like to be an Irish writer abroad – the expected, the unexpected, the stereotypes, the surprises…

Readings from Maeve’s work by Clelia Murphy.

Coffee breaks, book signings and Meet the Authors all included.

Half Day Ticket €30 (plus fees).
