Economics in the Anthropocene: can a natural capital approach prevent ecological collapse?

Prof Dieter Helm CBE, Professor of Economic Policy and Official Fellow in Economics, New College, Oxford will discuss the role of economics in a human-dominated epoch and the potential for the natural capital approach to take society off a trajectory of ecological collapse. He will outline the analytics required to progress such an agenda and outline the vision for the future articulated in his new book, Green and Prosperous Land.

Prof Helm will speak in the PACCAR Theatre, Science Gallery, Trinity College on May 1st at 11am. This event is jointly hosted by Trinity College Dublin and the Irish Forum on Natural Capital (IFNC).

Prof. Helm has spent his professional life working on energy, infrastructure and natural resources. He explores modern farming, the EU’s CAP and the use of pesticides such as glyphosate, and is the Chair of the UK Natural Capital Committee.
