The third annual interdisciplinary conference of the Centre for Critical Media Literacy seeks to look more deeply at now-familiar concepts such as Artificial Intelligence (and the ubiquitous algorithms that it powers), Big Data, and the Internet of Things. We explore these phenomena not only in theory, but in practice; and try to gauge, amid widespread dystopian fears of surveilliance and hyper-commercialisation, what remains of emerging technologies' potential for advancing justice and inclusion. The keynote is by Dan McQuillan, speaking on 'Anti-Fascist AI'.

Now added: Workshops for primary-school-age children! 'Positive Time Online' – led by Fardus Sultan, an expert in digital media literacy who has worked extensively with children – will help children to enjoy the online environment in a thoughtful, safe and ethical way. The one-hour workshops are inclusive and delivered in a manner consistent with the principles of Universal Design. There is a workshop at 10am for children aged 7 to 10 years and another at 11.45am for children aged 11 and 12 years. Advance registration on the 'Tickets' link is required and a small fee is charged. Attendance at the conference is not necessary for parents of children attending, and parents are not required to stay for the duration of the workshop. Further information on the children's workshops is available from the workshop co-ordinator, Fardus Sultan (fardus.sultan@mydit.ie).
