Mary Lyons: Developing talent from within – utilising Further Education and Training as a Key Resource for your Business
Mary Lyons is Director of Enterprise, Employees and Skills at SOLAS, the Further Education and Training Authority in Ireland. She has worked as a researcher, lecturer and a skills development specialist in a range of education and industry settings.
Her recent work focuses on national workforce skills development policy and creating innovation opportunities for education and enterprise partners. The aim is both to create new upskilling and reskilling opportunities for workers at risk of displacement due to technological and market developments and to support SMEs to grow their businesses by developing their workforce,
An increasingly important aspect of her work is promoting further education and training as a key resource for enterprise. Mary’s current role also includes the development of micro qualifications and leading digital transformation developments to make Further Education and Training in Ireland more accessible and flexible for everyone.
Siobhán Lawlor is head of Intreo’s Employer Relations Division in the Department of Social Protection.
The services include recruitment support for employers, engagement with their representative groups, deliver Ireland’s EURES social mobility programme and she is responsible for JobsIreland.ie, Intreo’s free online recruitment and job-matching platform. She is chair of the Cross Border Partnership for Employment Services in collaboration with the Dept of Communities in Northern Ireland and leads the team working in the FutureBuilding Initiative to support career opportunities in the construction sector.
In her role she works closely with Solas as a Divisional Manager she was responsible for the delivery of Intreo services across north Dublin, collaborating with local partnerships, voluntary organisations and employers. She has long been an advocate for human rights and equality, addressing unconscious bias and promoting social inclusion and diversity. She studied in the Institute of Public Administration in Dublin and the University of Ulster.
