On December 3rd, we invite you to celebrate International Day for Persons with Disabilities. #IDPWD2021

Join Sharon McCarthy, autism specialist from Autism Journeys Training and Consultancy service and Clare Kennelly, Disability and Inclusion expert from Inclusive World Training as they offer insight into Empowering Inclusion in the workplace through a disability and neurodiversity lens. 

This event will be of interest to HR professionals, EDI leads, Hiring Managers, Access Officers, Talent Acquisition and all organisations and ERGs looking to change the dial on Disability and Neurodiversity in the Workplace.

Sharon McCarthy

Sharon is a professional who has worked in the autism field in a number of capacities for over twenty years. At a national level, Sharon is adjunct course author and lecturer of the new national training programme for special educational needs assistants with University College Dublin in collaboration with the National Council for Special Education. She also delivers a number of autism specific training workshops to different disability and training services across the country and over the past number of years, Sharon has also designed and delivered autism centric courses in her local community college, the Cork College of Commerce, all of which are centred on best practice and more importantly, ensure the autistic persons voice is central at all times.

She has spoken at different public events in relation to autism including the IASLT Autism and Neurodiversity Special Interest Group (SIG) annual conference in 2019 and as part of the National Carers Coffee Morning Initiative in 2020. She is founding director of Autism Journeys Training and Consultancy service where she supports autistic children and young people and their families from both an advocacy and educational standpoint. Sharon holds a number of disability and autism specific qualifications including a Diploma in Autism Studies and a higher diploma in Facilitating Inclusion, Disability Studies along with a Post Graduate Certificate in Autism Studies. She is also both a qualified advocate and a childcare professional and she continues to upskill through CPD training.

Sharon is the mind behind, and presenter of Autism Journeys Radio Show and Podcasts, a show centred on gaining the perspectives and telling the stories of figures in the autism community. She prides herself on the eclectic mix of information in the many podcasts now available on SoundCloud, Spotify and YouTube which are currently listened to in 27 countries around the world.

In January 2021, Sharon published Supporting Autonomy: Visual strategies to set the autistic child up for success; a strengths focused programme centred on empowering the autistic child and young person through the use of visual tools and strategies.

Sharon is also parent to multiply identified autistic children for more than 24 years and is based in rural Cork, Ireland.
