The National Forum’s current Assessment Enhancement Theme focuses on assessment of, for and as learning in Irish higher education, i.e. assessment and feedback. In addition, a recent National Forum project focused on Enabling Policies for Digital Teaching and Learning.

Some principles emerged from the assessment theme, for example: the development of students as self and peer reviewers of their own learning; the importance of students as partners in assessment; diverse assessments; manageable assessment loads; and programme approaches to assessment design. In addition, the Enabling Policies project explored the definition and existence of enabling institutional digital assessment policies.

This workshop, draws on the findings from these two projects, to encourage a debate on:

  • What do we mean by enabling policies?
  • What current institutional assessment policies are available and to what extent are these enabling?
  • To what extend do current policies emphasized the above principles, over other principles, such as reliability and attribution?
  • How can we develop and guide sustainable local, institutional and national assessment policies for the changing world of assessment in higher education?
