The Research Development Office shall hold an information session on ERC Starter & Consolidator Grants 2018, in the John Hume Boardroom, 3rd Floor John Hume Building.

Who can apply?

ERC Starters

Researchers of any nationality with 2-7 years of experience since completion of PhD(Extensions are possible under certain circumstances — see the latest ERC Work Programme), a scientific track record showing great promise and an excellent research proposal

Applications can be made in any field of research.

Starting Grants may be awarded up to € 1.5 million for a period of 5 years. (pro rata for projects of shorter duration). However, an additional € 0.5 million can be made available to cover eligible “start-up” costs for researchers moving from a third country to the EU or an associated country and/or the purchase of major equipment and/or access to large facilities.

ERC Consolidators

ERC Consolidator Grants are designed to support excellent Principal Investigators at the career stage at which they may still be consolidating their own independent research team or programme. Applicant Principal Investigators must demonstrate the ground-breaking nature, ambition and feasibility of their scientific proposal. Size of ERC Consolidator Grants Consolidator Grants may be awarded up to a maximum of EUR 2 000 000 for a period of 5 years.

The Principal Investigator shall have been awarded their first PhD over 7 and up to 12 years prior to 1 January 2018. The effective elapsed time since the award of the first PhD can be reduced in certain properly documented circumstances.
