Event description
Half-day conference in collaboration with the IIEA on the Future of Europe post-Brexit, and of Ireland's future within a new Europe.

About this Event

Join us on Wednesday, 4 March from 12.45pm to 4.15pm for a major half-day seminar, entitled Europe and the Future, jointly hosted by the College Historical Society (the Hist), Trinity College Dublin and the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA). This event is part of a week-long commemoration marking the 250th anniversary of the Hist.

Comprising two panels, this seminar will bring together former presidents and heads of European Union institutions and leading commentators and politicians to reflect on the EU’s development and look ahead to the major challenges that lie ahead.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Tony Barber, Europe Editor at The Financial Times;
  • Catherine Day, Secretary-General of the European Commission (2005-2015);
  • Shona Murray, Brussels Correspondent with Euronews;
  • David O’Sullivan, EU Ambassador to the US (2014-2019);
  • Romano Prodi, President of the European Commission (1999-2004);
  • Judith Sargentini, GreenLeft MEP 2009-2019; and
  • Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council (2009-2014).

Further speakers to be announced.

A full programme, including event running order and speaker biographies will be available closer to the event.
