Description

Unfinished Business: A Century of Women and Women’s Rights:

Following the tireless work of the suffragettes, Irish women succeeded in winning the right to vote in 1918. This was a real milestone in the history of women’s rights. However, it was just the beginning, because only women over the age of 30 who owned land or had a university education were permitted to vote.

This exhibition examines 100 years of women’s rights, from the suffragettes and the women’s vote through to the seventies, when the Irish Women’s Liberation Movement was formed, and up to the present day.

Irish female authors including Edna O’Brien and Kate O’Brien, whose work was censored, are also considered, as are prominent women in Irish politics such as Mary Robinson and Mary McAleese.

Exhibition runs from 15 August to 31 August 2018
