Event description
Fake News? Use of Machine Learning Algorithms to classify political news and online websites during 2018 Presidential Brazilian Election

About this Event

Seminar Description:

In this seminar we will present two studies related to Fake News. In the first study, we collected 26000 news titles (fake or not) during September and October 2018 and we used Machine Learning Algorithms to predict if the news is fake or not. We compared the models based on accuracy and we also evaluated what words have more influence on the probability that the news is fake or not. In the second study, we investigate what website characteristics are more related to the probability that the online news source is spreading fake news. For this study, we analysed data from the 100 most visited news website in Brazil in September 2018.
