Fischer El Sani Artists Talk
Date and time
Description
Nina Fischer and Maroan El Sani will discuss the 2 films showing throughout October at MART which touch on the tensions between globalisation and specific local narratives. These works exemplify the concerns they have explored since the early 1990s; modern ruins, forgotten sites whose traces refuse to disappear and communities that resist the pressures of being overpowered by problematic urban development and catastrophe; and the influence of cinematic narrative on collective memory in places where, having been the location for films, the cinematic memory supercedes local histories and narratives. Their work, which falls within the wider tradition of socially engaged art practice, invites resistance to the amnesia embedded in contemporary urban practice, architectural development and economic structures.
The discussion will be chaired by Dr Maeve Connolly (Co-director of IADT MA in Art and Research Collaboration) and will start at 7 pm sharp.
This artists talk is presented in collaboration with IADT's MA in Art and Research Collaboration as part of a programme of events related to the exhibition 'Spelling Dystopia & Narita Field Trip'.
