About this Event

IN-SIGHT ART

AN ART THERAPY COURSE PRESENTED BY COSÁIN AND FUNDED BY GRETB

What is art therapy?

In art therapy the creative use of art materials, objects and pictures allows us to explore new ways of relating to ourselves, our experiences in life and the world around us. In the safe space of a therapeutic group environment we can gain new perspectives, begin to tolerate uncertainty and start to open new possibilities in our lives. You do not need to have any experience or be ‘good at’ art in order to participate but rather be open to expressing yourself.

Programme content: Each one and a half hour session will comprise of discussion, creative expression and shared reflection.

Week 1: Putting down roots and establishing group safety

Week 2: A sense of hope and coping

Week 3: Meaning and self compassion

Week 4: Growth Week

5: Reflection and evaluation

Start date: 10/09/2019 Finish date: 08/10/2019

Venue: Red Door Studio, 2nd floor, 78 Prospect Hill, Galway, H91 WR6P. 3 minute walk from Eyre Square. There is street parking near the studio or a multi storey car park behind TKMaxx.

A note on art therapy:

Art therapy can be gentle and fun yet can take us out of our comfort zone and have a powerful effect on us. This therapeutic programme will be run in a safe way, so that each participant and the group as a whole works in a supportive and respectful manner. Confidentiality and full attendance* are important aspects of establishing safety. All materials will be provided and all artwork will be stored in the studio until the end of the programme at which point participants will decide what they would like to do with their artwork.

* Full attendance - Spaces are limited to 10 people and to ensure commitment to the course we hope that you understand the need to ask for a deposit. This deposit is refunded on completion of the course or can be donated to Cosáin to support the important work they do in the community.

Art therapist: Ursula Murry is an experienced, trauma informed art psychotherapist who will work gently alongside you to support you in making the most of the programme.

Please contact ash@cosainwellness.ie if you have any queries on the course or would like to sign up.
