Flores & Prats - UCD Master of Architecture Lecture Series : 1
Event Information
Description
UCD School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy is delighted to present Ricardo Flores and Eva Prats of Flores & Prats, Barcelona at University College Dublin.
Flores & Prats are the first of three architects that will speak as part of an inaugural UCD Master of Architecture Lecture and Masterclass Series, in 2019.
The lecture series is free and all are welcome to attend the lectures whether directly involved in architecture, education or not.
A key aim of the lecture series is to share the work and practice of architects and students in education with a broader audience. UCD Architecture is therefore pleased to offer a series of public talks to which all are welcome to discuss, consider and debate ideas in architecture, ideas which inevitably impact and enrich our individual and collective daily lives.
The UCD Master of Architecture Masterclass Series is supported by Dublin Port Company as part of the Dublin Port Perspectives Program. The lecture series is presented in association with the Architectural Association of Ireland.
______
ABOUT Flores & Prats, Barcelona.
Flores & Prats is an architecture studio based in Barcelona. Established in 1998 by Eva Prats and Ricardo Flores, the studio is dedicated to confronting theory and academic practice with design and construction activity. The studio has been involved in many different kinds of projects, often through open competition. Projects include residential and public buildings, public spaces, and exhibition design and site-specific installations for major cultural institutions and museums, including the Tàpies Foundation, Miró Foundation and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona.
2017 saw the completion of the critically acclaimed Sala Beckett in Barcelona and in 2018, Flores & Prats were invited to preset the Sala Beckett at FREESPACE, the 16th International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia,, curated by Irish architects Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara.
In 2019 Eva Prats has been shortlisted as Architect of the Year in the Women in Architecture Awards run by the Architectural Review and Architect's Journal in the UK for her work on Casal Balaguer Cultural Centre in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, made by Flores & Prats and Duch-Pizà.
Both Eva Prats and Ricardo Flores have a sustained track record in teaching architecture, being Professors of Architecture at ETSA, visiting critics around the world and running workshops with students of architecture in Europe, the USA, South America and Australia.
This is the first time Flores & Prats will work directly with students of architecture in Ireland.
_______
ABOUT UCD Master of Architecture Lecture and Masterclass Series.
Working under the theme of Our State of In-between, the aim of the series is to make more public the ways and means by which architects are educated, by inviting architects and educators with an international track record in architectural education, practice and public engagement to share their teaching, learning and practice experience at a public lecture.
Students of architecture at UCD in their final year of education will then participate in a masterclass or discussion with the invited speakers.
