Event description
An exploration of how to be an environmentally focused group, with reference to the Criteria to join the Environmental College of the PPN.

About this event

This information session will explore how community groups can take action for the environment within their own work.

About this session

We will introduce the concept of sustainability as illustrated by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and explain the agreed environmental standards that a group should meet if they wish to join the PPN Environmental College. These standards are based on best practice and climate science.

Using this PPN criteria as a framework, we will provide information to attendees of how to become an environmentally focused group and join the PPN Environmental College if they wish to do so.

The national Environmental Pillar would like all community groups to be aware of the positive effects that they can have on their local environment, and to become a guardian for the local ecology which we all rely on for our health and wellbeing.

We will be using these two documents as reference: Criteria to join the PPN Environmental College and the Community Groups Eligibility Form.

What will we cover?

In this information session, we will go through the eligibility form and explore the reasons behind the environmental standards that a group should meet if they wish to join the PPN Environmental College.

Attendees will gain insight into common environmental challenges, including why they are of importance and how they can address them through their work. Examples of positive solutions and alternatives to previous practices will be shown, including examples from other groups in Ireland and links to resources.

This session will not only provide help in completing the eligibility form for joining the PPN Environmental College, but give a deeper understanding of how your group can strengthen their environmental work, or become a group whose main aims are to tackle local environmental challenges.

Who is this session for?

This info session is for any groups or individuals who would like to learn more about some of the common environmental challenges that we face, and hear some examples of how these could be tackled locally.

It is also focused on joining the Public Participation Network, and so will be useful to community groups who would like to join the PPN as an environmental group. These could include groups such as Resident's Associations or Tidy Towns. This session will give you an understanding of what an environmental group is, and help you to register for the Public Participation Network as an environmental group.

Book your place through Eventbrite. We will be using Zoom for the evening. The day before the meeting, we will email the link to join to all email addresses registered through Eventbrite. You do not need to have Zoom installed on your computer or phone, as you can join through your browser. You will need internet access to join the meeting.
