Event Details

The space industry generates an estimated €300 million each year for Irish companies. In this panel discussion, we ask about Ireland's contribution to the space race — and is there room to grow it even more? From innovative technology aboard the International Space Station to point of-care diagnostic technology used to assess the impact of space travel on the health of astronauts, we look at the companies who are making the leap toward space exploration and realising Ireland’s potential in space.

David  McKeown is an assistant professor of Dynamics and Control Systems in the UCD School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering. His current work focuses on the vibration control of rockets for the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Future Launcher Preparatory Programme and being on the management board of EIRSAT-1, Ireland’s first Satellite.

Norah Patten is a faculty member at the International Space University, aeronautical engineering graduate and a former University of Limerick researcher. She participated in the Project PoSSUM citizen science program and is also the founder of Planet Zebunar, which provides resources for the next generation of explorers, astronauts, engineers, and innovators.

Barry  Twomey is a mechanical engineer and the technical officer of ENBIO, an Irish company that solves the material challenges of metal. ENBIO has teamed up with the European Space Agency to work on a heat shield for the Solar Orbiter spacecraft.
