About this event
‘Humour is at the heart of the emotional immune system. It is a necessary part of human completeness that we have the capacity to laugh and have fun. For children to leave us without it would be as bad as their going out into the world without love or music or a sense of beauty’. Brian Gannon)
This workshop will focus on the purposeful and therapeutic uses of Humour and Fun. We will explore definitions, consider some of the uses of fun and humour that are prevalent in caring research, look at how humour is recognised as an effective ‘tool’ or approach (within many other caring profession), and explore some of the many uses and purposes in Relational Practice, especially in the context of troubled kids (CYC)
Attention is also given to the fact that Humour is NOT a panacea, and if used incorrectly, can be very destructive.
At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Describe some definitions for Fun and Humour.
- Detail the ‘Macro-Uses’ of humour .
- List other professions that use Humour ‘therapeutically’.
- Articulate some of the potential pitfalls that may exist.
- Describe the ‘6 C’s’ of Humour in CYC.
