Event description


The 2018 Aquathon Series sponsored by Galway City Physiotherapy starts Tuesday night 19th June at Dangan. The series includes a number of races of 750m swim and 5km run with the venues moving between a number of local locations. This year there will be 6 races in the series – The last race (7th) will be a handicapped race.

Entry Criteria

The competition is open to all Galway County Triathlon Clubs.

All participants must be members of TI. Evidence of membership will be required. You will also need to sign in every race night.

Start Time

Events will start as per above. You need to register each night and are asked to be at the race venue half an hour in advance to allow time to register and set up your transition area.

****Pre-Registration Mandatory

Due to expected numbers, pre-registration is mandatory for the first night of the competition. Only those who have pre-registered can take part on this night. This is to ensure that we have sufficient safety measures in place.

Entry Fee:

Entry for the series is €10+booking fee - this covers you for all races and is payable through Eventbrite. Please note the €10 entry fee is for the full series regardless of how many races you participate in. The fee is to cover all expenses incurred.

Series Points System

Points are award for your best 5 races, (one of which you must volunteer for), 100 points for 1st place, 99 for second, 98 for 3rd and so on.

You are expected to marshal at one race for which you will receive 500 points.


Aquathon Series

The overall winner (Male and Female race) - this is calculated on a cumulative points bases. Points are award for your best 5 races, 100 points for 1st place, 99 for second, 98 for 3rd and so on. 500 points are award for marshalling a race (you will only be awarded one set of 500 points for marshalling duty).

Junior Race

16-18 year olds. (Male and Female race) Must be 16 by Dec 31st 2018. Same rules apply as the senior race including volunteering. Parental Consent will be required when signing in and all under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent.

Handicapped Race

The FINAL race will be a handicapped race and will be open to all participants who meet the criteria below i.e. the slowest athlete will start first, the fastest athlete will start last. First past the finish line wins. John Cunniffe is a genius at working out athlete’s handicap and in years previous there has be a mass sprint for finish line. You must have completed a minimum of 1 race and volunteered in 1 race to be eligible to win the handicap race.

Bake Off

The Annual Aquathon Series Bake off will take place as part of the Series and tea/ coffee will be available for all athletes after each event. The Bake Off has become the real competition over the years! Please join in and contribute to this bit of fun too!

This year we have the added bonus of having our own gas burco boiler so guaranteed hot water after your race!
