About this event
King's Head Quay Street, Galway
Galway has had a long and interesting connection with Spain. Trade with Spain began in the 14th century, and continued right through to the 17th century. Along the way there were marriages, murders and many unfulfilled promises. Local story-teller Brian Nolan will weave these stories into a rich tapestry that will reveal the many aspects of the cultural, trading and revolutionary connections of this very Spanish city, Galway with the ports along the Atlantic coast of Spain. Brian will talk about music, son and poetry also, and of course the Claddagh, the black Irish, Spanish ale, and even Spanish beer, Christopher Columbus, potatoes and the Spanish Armada.
Brian Nolan is a working member of 'Corrib Beo', or 'Our Living Corrib', an association of community groups, individuals, businesses and government agencies, whose aim is to create a shared vision for a living, vibrant Corrib, with far-reaching benefits for the protection and development of our heritage, our communities, our environment and our economy. This event is one of 10 events that features some aspect of the Corrib Beo vision that will take place during Heritage Week 2022.
