The countdown is on with less than 6 months to go before the new data protection rules, known as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), will apply to all EU member states.

Results from the January 2018 GDPR Survey from ISME Members

  • Only 38% could name some of the changes GDPR will bring.

  • 70% have not identified steps/actions that will need to take place to be GDPR compliant.

  • 76% are concerned about GDPR.

  • 32% are planning to get outside help to assist them with GDPR compliance.

  • 67% would like to see training offered on GDPR

Based on these finding, ISME Skillnet have designed GDPR Preparation training sessions entitled GDPR Essentials for SMEs.specifically aimed at SMEs and business owners. The first session will take place on Thursday, 15th February in the Clayton Hotel, Liffey Valley, Dublin and is already booked out. We have added additional sessions in:

Leon will clearly explain GDPR, its implications for SMEs and will recommend the steps to take, asking:

  • How it will impact your operations and your business?

  • 3 months until enforcement – what you need to do?

0900– 10.15: Data Security implications for GDPR and Security Breaches - David Waldron, Director, Cloudstrong

In this Cyber Security briefing, David will be sharing key learnings, insights and requirements company owners and directors need to ensure the safety of their IT infrastructure, either local or in the Cloud.

An introductory training session to help you to answer these questions for your business:

• Why should we be worried about cyber-crime?

• What are the threats to our business?

• How does GDPR and Security of IT Systems/Personal Data go hand in hand?

• How does our business culture affect the risk?

• What are the 6 things we need to do today?

• What else do we need to consider?

This is a non-technical session for owners and leaders of small and medium businesses.

The Speakers:

Leon Atkins – Chief Executive, Obesy International

Léon is a solicitor, and a risk and compliance professional, having spent more than fifteen years’ operating at senior and executive level in multi-national organisations in a variety of sectors, latterly as Chief Compliance Officer at UDG Healthcare plc. He now leads Obséy, a Dublin based risk and compliance consulting business, which includes a specialist data governance practice. Léon has real-world experience of advising on data protection and managing privacy and compliance programmes, going back as far as the implementation of the original data protection directive in 1996. He is a regular speaker and commentator on data protection, including at the GDPR Summit in London.

David Waldron, Director, CloudStrong

David Waldron is co-founder and Senior Business Consultant of CloudStrong Ltd. As a company founder 6 years ago, David has overseen the company transform from a solely Cloud based company, to a full ICT Provider and IT Managed Services Provider. With a background in IT and various other roles in the ICT Industry, David has a vast amount of experience built up over the last 16 years with SME’s and IT. David was presented with the prestigious Microsoft Ireland Hosting Partner of the Year award by Cathriona Hallahan the MD of Microsoft Ireland, on behalf of the CloudStrong Team at the Microsoft WPC in Florida last year. Line about David’s GDPR credentials. David is a Certified Data Protection Practitioner by the Irish Computer Society (ICS). David has spoken at various events including the most recent GDPR Summit in Croke Park, on the practical IT and Security steps business owners should put in place for both Security and Compliance reasons.
