Description

Science Gallery Dublin presents this seminar which aims to critically interrogate multiple approaches to the issue of gender inclusivity in STEM communication. This spans a range of contexts: formal and non-formal educational content; the uptake of STEM subjects in second and third level education, and the representation of women in academia and in the professional STEM sectors. Through a range of talks and interactive workshop sessions, participants will examine the merits of various approaches, the opportunites for synergies among groups, and work together to develop a set of guidelines to collectively improve gender inclusivity in STEM education and communication in Ireland.

09.30: Coffee & welcome

10.00 - 11.15: Lightning talks - speakers include Prof. Brian MacCraith - DCU & Chair of STEM Education Review Group; Ruth Buckley - iWish; Vicky Lee - We are Here; Grace Lawlor - CodePlus & Bridge 21; Lynn Scarff - Science Gallery Dublin - further speakers TBC.

11.15 - 12.30: Break-out workshop sessions

12.30 - 13.00: Plenary - feedback and closing remarks.

13.00: Lunch

This seminar is organised within the context of the HYPATIA project - aiming to increase gender inclusivity in STEM communication across Europe. Hypatia project has received funding from the European Union´s Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (H2020-GERI-2014) under the grant agreement No. 665566.
