Event description

Description

We are launching our first ever ArcGIS for Schools GeoMentor workshop on the 1st of August 2019 and we would love for you to come along!

First of all what is a GeoMentor? If you have not already heard about our ArcGIS for Schools Program - it is an Esri not-for-profit initiative set up to provide all primary and post-primary schools with free access to our digital mapping software as well as training, resources and support. There are over 140 schools signed up to the program so far across Ireland and Northern Ireland, and this number is constantly growing. We are now reaching out and looking for knowledgeable GIS Professionals from all over Ireland to work with teachers to help apply ArcGIS Online in the classroom. Can you help to inspire the next generation of GIS Professionals by using your skills to help teachers introduce GIS to a classroom near you? If yes, this workshop is the perfect opportunity for you to learn about what is involved!

What you can expect:

The workshop will take you through what exactly the ArcGIS for Schools Program and GeoMentor Program are and what being a GeoMentor involves. You will see the impact that the program has had on schools around Ireland, including how young students are using GIS to solve real world problems. You will be provided with access to many ArcGIS resources on the day, which you can use with schools that you will work with as a GeoMentor. The ultimate aim of this session is to get you trained up as a GeoMentor so that you can be assigned to a school this coming September. *Note: This will be a practical session so please bring a laptop or iPad.
