Event description

Description

Increasingly, Irish students are exploring options to complete work placements or internships abroad. At the same time, the number of International students participating in work placement programmes as part of a degree here in Ireland is also growing. With these two scenarios in mind, this seminar will aim to open discussions around supporting student success in the arena of international work placements, by which we mean both the practice of placing Irish students abroad and placing international students in Irish companies.

International placements can represent challenges for the placement team and other college staff and for students who intend working abroad. Frequently students require tailored pre-placement supports that are different to those requesting domestic placements, including important support around finance and grants.

International or non-EU students studying in Irish HEIs frequently require tailored pre-placement supports in order to be placed with domestic companies, in particular, there may be challenges for placement officers in accessing up-to-date information on visas, individual company requirements and other relevant legal requirements that may affect non-EU students sourcing paid placements in Ireland.

Experts in the area of international placements will present case studies and practical advice and information on these subjects. We will explore what is considered good practice in both cases with the help of employers and HEI professional services staff that have experience in this field.
