Grayscale presents: Visionist
A live audio visual show as part of Musictown 2018 in one of Dublin's fine art spaces; the Chocolate Factory
Visionist is the London-based experimental composer and producer Louis Carnell. Visionist's 2017 album, Value, released via Big Dada, explores a complex interweaving ideas of artistic value and self-worth, while building on the distinct sound of previous releases. Visionist will be accompanied by a live visual performance by Pedro Maia, a Portuguese filmmaker and audio-visual artist known for his specific interest in working with analog film. His new work for Visionist is one of chaos and absurdity; original, disturbing and surreally beautiful.

Critical Acclaim for Value:
"The London producer’s latest full-length, a high-concept electronic consideration of the artistic soul, balances between fragility and bombast” — Pitchfork
“We’re left blinking into neon lights post-anxiety attack, with our pupils hastily trying to readjust and our pulses still racing…if Safe was Visionists ‘personal portrait of anxiety’ then Value is his awakening.” — Mixmag (9/10)
"A bold, ambitious album that once again finds Visionist truly worthy of his forward-thinking moniker.” — PopMatters
“Carnell deals in beatless, breathless abstractions, all high concepts well buried in dense atmospherics and sonic pyrotechnics.” — Clash
“Value could be the most important electronic album released this year.” Gigwise (9/10)
“An emotionally charged vocal piece which suggests that Carnell himself is a character every bit as complex as the sonic environments he creates.” — Q
Grayscale
Grayscale are an Irish collective bringing contemporary audio-visual arts events to a wider audience in Dublin and nationwide. Grayscale events are equal parts ‘music’ and ‘art’, with artists from both fields promoted equally. We believe that there is a serious lack of provision for this essential crossing of artforms in Ireland. Our events typically utilize alternative spaces such as churches, function rooms, galleries and museums.
Grayscale started after years of seeing what was being created and explored at festivals across Europe such as Unsound in Krakow, CTM in Berlin, Future Everything in Manchester, Club to Club in Turin, GLOW in Eindhoven and Rewire in the Netherlands.
To date, Grayscale has worked with cutting-edge artists such as Lorenzo Senni, Mr. Mitch, Rachel Noble, Tim Redfern, Damien Lynch, Slipdraft, R. Kitt, Eilis McDonald, Breffni McGeough, Dreamcycles, Lilian Puthod, and Lumigraph. Together we’ve reimagined spaces like the Pillar Room in the Rotunda, Temple Bar Gallery and Studios, and the Wood Quay venue.
