These workshops are for providers/practitioners who are working in Early Years services. Priority may be given to services within Dublin City Childcare Commitee's remit area.


Workshop title: Hanen- - Encouraging Language Development in Early Childhood settings – 2 day workshop for all early years’ practitioners, including home based childminders

Dates and time: 10th of March, 9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.

13th of March, 6.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.

Venue: Hilton Airport Hotel, Northern Cross, Malahide Road, Dublin 17

Parking: Please note regarding parking, whether at the venue or on-street, it is at your own expense.

About this workshop:

The workshop will introduce early childhood educators to the Learning Language and Loving It™ approach and will cover the key principles of Learning Language and Loving It. The workshop will actively engage participants through discussions, small/large group activities and analysis of video examples. Participants will learn how to:

  • Identify children’s conversational styles and the role teachers play in interactions;
  • Implement six steps to following the child’s lead: Observe, Wait and Listen, Be Face to Face, Imitate, Interpret, Comment, and Join in and Play;
  • Help children become better conversation partners by using appropriate questions, comments and turn-taking cues;
  • Use five important steps to ensure that no child is left out of the interaction during group activities. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance for this workshop.
